Fibers

Cones of Yarn

Different fibers impart different properties to circular knit textiles. Alamac offers several choices of fibers to ensure your final garment will have the desired characteristics.

100% Cotton

Alamac uses high quality combed cotton yarns for a soft hand. Cotton is a naturally porous fiber that allows the fabric to breathe. Our Alaset finish and compacting methods control the shrinkage and provide wash and wear characteristics. Newborn and infant markets through adult markets request the comfort of 100% cotton.

100% Polyester

Fortrel®, the premium synthetic polyester fiber used by Alamac, gives fabric a natural hand and easy care properties you can count on. Our polyester products (we call them Traverse) are wrinkle resistant, virtually no pill and breathable. The moisture management and soil release finishes add to the comfort and longevity of our Traverse fabrics. The Uniform trade embraces the durability and performance attributes of Traverse. Polyester continues to find its way into new markets.

Blends

The comfort properties of cotton and the durability of Fortrel® polyester are combined in 50/50 cotton/polyester blends and 60/40 cotton rich blends. Satisfy your market needs by using a blended product that combines comfort and performance.

Novelty Heathers

Novelty heathers provide interest to piece dye and yarn dye products. Alamac sources only the highest quality novelties in the market and we also create some of our own. Choose from the popular heathers we run or let us create heathers for you based on your color palette. We offer heathers in all the fibers we run.

Vat Dye Blends

Alamac has engineered high performing 50/50 blends by implementing a unique dye process. The Vat Dye product is low pill,  retains color through multiple washings and can be further enhanced with Alamac’s performance finishes. This remarkable product services markets that want a longer lasting garment.

Vellux

This is a patented technique of creating a flocked surface with nylon fibers. Alamac is partnered with WestPoint Stevens, the largest producer of Vellux blankets, to bring to the market a product that offers warmth without weight. Alamac’s knit fabric on one side and the soft nylon flock on the other side create a versatile product, often used for lightweight outerwear and stadium blankets.
